The Lars Erik Lundberg Scholarship Foundation

The Lars Erik Lundberg Scholarship Foundation grants scholarships to doctoral students in subject areas encompassed by the overall concept of the built environment. Scholarships are intended for doctoral students who intend to carry out research, preferably full-time, and have been offered supervision at a higher education institution, but do not have a doctoral studentship and are not receiving any other funding.

Thus, scholarships are not offered to higher education institutions, employed doctoral students, or those who have doctoral grants.

By amendments to the Higher Education Ordinance in 2018, doctoral students adopted from July 1st, 2018 must have a formal employment not later than three years of full-time studies remaining in the doctoral studies. This means that scholarship funding for these can usually only be considered during the first year.

For a doctoral student admitted before July 1st, 2018, the foundation can support the student for all years until the doctorate.

The applicant is expected to meet the requirements for scholarship funding, as amended by the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017-947). That this is the case is the responsibility of the applicant and the university.

The scholarship goes to the student personally and is tax-exempt. It is calculated to cover basic living expenses and accommodation for a doctoral student for one year. The scholarship consists of monthly payments, currently SEK 24,000 per month, for a maximum of 12 months. Accordingly, a full-year scholarship for postgraduate studies on a full-time basis is currently SEK 288,000. If the student intends to undertake postgraduate studies part-time or full-time for only part of the year, this must be stated in the application and the scholarship amount will be adjusted accordingly. Generally, around ten scholarships are granted each year.

Online application procedure

From the 2017 scholarship year, the Foundation has a new application procedure that uses an online application system. Information about the various steps involved in applying for a scholarship from the Lars Erik Lundberg Scholarship Foundation is provided below. It is important that you read these instructions before you create an account, log in and begin an application.

The Foundation receives applications during only one period each year. You can apply for a scholarship via our online application system and the application period begins on Tuesday JANUARY 1, 2019 at 12:01 a.m. Applications must be received by the Foundation not later than Friday FEBRUARY 11, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.

Create a user account – applicants and supervisors

Before you can use the application system, you need to create an account with your own personal profile. Your personal profile contains your contact details, such as your name, place of work and e-mail address.

Click on "Log in" and on “Create New User,” fill in the form for your personal profile according to the instructions and click on “Register.” An e-mail message will be sent to you with login details, including a temporary password. Follow the instructions to create your account.

To change to your own password, go to “My Profile” and “Password.” Your new password must contain at least eight (8) characters, of which at least six (6) are not the same, and your password must contain at least one upper-case (capital) letter and two digits (0-9).

You can then log in using your e-mail address and your password.

Ask your supervisor to create a user account in the same way. Your supervisor can be linked to your application, which he/she can view via his/her login.

Create application

Specify whether your application is a first-time application (you have not previously been granted a scholarship from the Lundberg Foundation) or a continuation scholarship (you have previously been granted a scholarship from the Lundberg Foundation for your doctoral project). Your choice determines which application form opens.

Fill in the application form on the screen according to the instructions. Link your supervisor to the application using the system’s search engine.

Attach PDF documents: CV (required), signed recommendation letter from your supervisor (required), project attachments (if applicable), and study plan (if applicable).

You can save your application and continue with it at a later time. Up until the last day for applications, it can be changed and resubmitted.

Selection process

The Expert Committee considers applications during the spring. Decisions on which applicants will be offered scholarships are made at the Foundation’s Board meeting in April. Applicants are notified via e-mail as soon as possible after this decision.
